I love creating wallpapers, but can't use them all. I thought I'd share a few since I love windowblinds. I know I'm not good at making skins or anything, but I wanted to contribute something!

Hi all,

I haven't posted in the forum for quite some time now, but something or someone has been bothering me for quite a while now. People work hard to create the walls they submit! I know mine haven't met the approval of a few people, but I do work hard at them. It's unfair that someone has been rating walls way down and not even commenting on them. What kind of a clown does that? Are they so chicken that they can't even lay claim to their spiteful ways? I'm tired of it!

As I said, there are a few people who are not satisfied with anything I do, be that as it may, don't just rate low and not explain why you did it! Only losers do that!

in 8 days you've put up 15 walls

Wow..that's a lot in 8 days. I guess walls really aren't that hard to do then. It usually takes me that long to do a theme...but I "try" to be picky and if it's not coming out the way I think it should I put it aside and come back to it later.

Skins are certainly a lot harder to create than walls! I'm sorry to the Mods that I posted this here, I shouldn't have! As I said before though, this wasn't just about me. Thanks to all of you for your validations of my work, that wasn't my point though. However, I do appreciate them very much! After all, I'm only human! I think Lightstar has the right idea! Can the ratings!

Just a suggestion- the more walls you put up that look like others, or are similar to what you have already submitted, the more likely people will rate them low.

However, there is nothing indicating foul play with your ratings, or the other person that I saw complaining.  Most ratings (good or bad) don't match up with comments.  It's just the way it is.  If you are uploading only to get good ratings, slow down and perfect several walls a week instead of throwing them all out and seeing what sticks.  Otherwise, get used to seeing the mixed bag of reviews that you get since it's only natural.

i have also noticed someone rating my walls down...Jazzi..let the ratings not bother you too much..

I don't have to worry about my walls getting rated down. They go there naturally. lol

people will rate, people will rate low. It's just a fact of life. Stars mean nothing. If you are happy with your work that should be all that matters. I have seen plenty of low rated stuff on this site but what i take notice of is the download count. If that is high or fairly high then what do a few less yellow pixels matter.

I'am considerable more direct than KarmaGirl.  If one puts up the same old shit ( basicly, things that look the same) the ratings will go down. Like how many squiggleys can one do before they look the same even if they have different colors.

And when you see walls coming out like a production line it's actually kind of a turn off....it just says the uploader isn't really thinking about quality as much as quantity. Lately I've noticed this on the front page with it being one wall and/or log on of the same design right after the other. Like Karma girl mentioned...maybe slowing down a bit and putting more thought into what your doing might help. And I very rarely download walls from here because of them pretty much all looking alike in one way or another. I'm more into high res walls of a scenic nature or anything else for that matter....squiggly lines and fractals just don't do it for me and there seems to be tons of them on the internet.

And I'd hate to be into doing good walls here because they would just get buried in no time flat never to be seen.

I always wondered what the result would be if there had been a physical limit to upload frequency.

What would the Galleries look like if a person could ONLY upload one item per week, say.

Surely the User would have to do a personal 'cull'/selection process....instead of the Moderators doing it...and being cursed by one and all...

Now that this can of worms is open I can't resist jumping in. I've noticed the over whelming amout of walls being uploaded and to me they are too similar. Good quality so it's just my taste.  Been awhile going on. Never said a word about it. So other's have noticed too. Thought I was just an old grouch or something.

My very first wallpaper was done completely in MSPaint. It took me nearly three weeks to complete as I was literally doing it line by line, almost pixel by pixel. Then I upload it and it was a hit. My last four or was it five, anyway ... they got as far as my personal page but the two previous, the one fractal and my first Halloween wall made the gallery. So I guess i average one decent one for every four. What the heck. People can still look at them if they want to. If they dl them fine, if not ... oh well. Ratings don't bother me. What I would like is a comment or two. Some criticism good or bad. Someone to say  ... well you could do this this way or try it that way or it just plain sucks try again. That's why i ask for comments. I'm still learning and looking to tap some brains.

I see all of your points and appreciate all the input, good and bad. Just to clarify something though. I'm disabled so I do a lot of computer graphics to pass the time. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything, but, I do put a lot of time into my work. I can't help it if walls are starting to look alike, it's just a trend. Just like everything else in life, there are trends in wallpapers. I'm not making excuses either. Ok! Enough about ratings, there's good an bad, I get that. Some of them, such as DEVJIT's work shouldn't be rated so low. Anyway, I thank you all for your comments!

I have been reluctant to join in here but will add my two cents worth. I, too find myself with a lot of time on my hands since losing my job.  I try really hard to only submit one wall a day as I do not think it is fair to bury everyone elses work with my submissions. Perhaps we all need to step back and take a closer look to quality instead of quantity. I do try to "wear" a wall for a day or so before foisting it onto the public and by doing so, find many flaws to correct and quite a few are shown to the recycle bin.  I will not address the ratings issue other than to say that all works here should be rated according to usabilty, quality and freshness, period. Personal issues should not fiqure into the equation.

I wasn't going to post to this thread, because I don't do too many walls myself, so I'm no authority, but a lot of times I've wondered if a person is loading on average 2 walls a day, then they can't possibly be personally using them, and how can you be a good salesman of your product if you're not willing to use it yourself?  How can a skinner expect a high rating on their creation if they're not willing to "wear" it themselves?

I've also wondered while browsing the wallpapers gallery if the elements in the art make sense - sometimes to me, they don't.  Sometimes there are arid, desert-type rocks sitting right next to lush, jungle-type greenery and ocean/lake/water bodies...that doesn't make sense.  Sometimes there are birds swimming at night, when ordinarily those types of birds would only be seen swimming during the daytime unless humans had harassed them during the day and so they would hunt for food during the night, but then the rest of the scene should look like it's been used by humans, not remote and secluded.

Well I am one of those people trying to get my works exposed and that is exactly what is happening. Jazzi  ever since you became a Journeyman the quality of your work has taken a nosedive. I believe you have one goal in mind and that is to be the queen of wallpapers here at WC AND to see your name at the top instead of another artist who has commented here.

Your Bryce works are all terrible. If I submitted anything like that you can be sure it would be refused on the public pages. That goes for your fractals also, If I submitted what you are submitting they would not be accepted. I am sure this childish game you are playing IS affecting artists, like me, who are striving to get to the next staus.

Supposedly, as Master Apprentice I am "in line" to become a Journeyman. What A joke. I no longer have that same feeling because a few of the last journeymen over the past months have done the same. Their work has gone down in quality with scenes I can replicate in 15 minutes using the same plug-ins and filters. I am busting my ass here and you and others like you are making it all a joke and that is not right. WebGizmos you are all too right!

Clean your monitor or get some new glasses. I was waiting for this too happen, in fact I knew this was going to backfire in your face, but t heir yu have it. This is what the community thinks of your latest works.

JAZZI I have been suffering from Chronic Lower Back Pain for 6 years now. I have multiple herniated discs and take all kinds of med, on permanent disability due to a work related accident. On top of that I am in remission from Cancer, (3 years) and I presently suffer from PTSD and Major Depression. Don't start with the sympathy card it just doesn't sit right with me. I have never submitted something I do not wear on my screen and if I am in that much discomfort, I leave it and go lie down.

G-D has given you the gift of being able to produce nice art when you want. Why are you not using it? People here would go out of their way to help, and have, and yo have snubbed them, each and every time. Sometimes one should be weary before asking questions. I am truly sorry you had to go through this but in MHO,  IT WAS HIGH TIME!
